I was born on7th February 1986 in Rolwaling Valley which has been now one of the best places for mountaineering trainings. In Sherpa culture most of the names are given according to the day you are born. In this way Phurba is given to me since I was born on Thursday. “Phurbu” means Thurday in Sherpa language. I learnt mountaineering here in Himalaya from my father and brother. I started accompanying expeditions to Himalayas soon after finishing high school in the year 2004.
Currently I am working as freelance mountain guide. I have been working for most of the biggest trekking and mountaineering companies in Nepal.
Climbing History and Guiding Experience:
So far I have been involved in more than fifteen expeditions to eight thousand and seven thousand meter peaks in Nepal Himalaya. My first expedition was to Mt Himlung with French team in the year 2004, since then have made successful summits ofMt Everest, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Baruntse for several times. Besides big expeditions I have guided clients to most of the 6000m peaks which are under Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) such as Mera peak, Island peak, Pisang peak, Pharchamo, Lobuche, Ramdung, Chulu East and West, Pogalde, Thapa peak, Yala peak. Guiding trekking team through passes like Tashi Lapcha, Thorong la, Amphu lapcha, West cole, Chola pass etc are also my favorites.
Climbing in Austrian and Bavarian Alps has given me different experience during my visits in the year 2010 and 2012. I have been working as guide expert in the courses (Aspirant and Mountain Guide) run byNNMGA and have received the certification of route setter and Judge for the climbing competitions under IFSC (International Federations of Sports Climbing) held in Nepal.
Fluency in English and German languages has been one of the main key sources in my successful Guiding profession.Â
